Background of the Study
Language planning initiatives are fundamental in nurturing and preserving indigenous art forms. In Abeokuta, Yoruba language arts—encompassing literature, drama, music, and visual arts—serve as vital expressions of cultural identity. Government and community-driven language planning efforts have been directed at integrating Yoruba into artistic practices through curriculum reforms, cultural festivals, and creative workshops. These initiatives aim to encourage artists to incorporate Yoruba language and symbolism into their works, thus promoting cultural continuity and innovation. The planning strategies involve developing standardized guidelines for artistic expression, organizing competitions, and supporting research on traditional art forms. Statement of the Problem

This discrepancy between policy intent and practical outcomes creates a gap that affects the sustainability of Yoruba art forms.
